EDUCATION IN WESTERN AND NON WESTERN COUNTRY

 

I am going to compare education in India and United States. In India now they started implementing outcome based education like US. Like United States, India also started following choice based credit system and outcome based education system. In India students are asked to demonstrate the project at the end of the program. These are the three similarities between India and United States.

            There are more than secondary and higher secondary education boards in India. Many of them using different curricula. Most states have their own board. Each School are expected to teach prescribed curriculum and make the students to pass in board exam. Different stages covered in Indian education systems are Primary, Secondary, Higher secondary,  Graduation and Post Graduation/ Masters. In India there is no imporatance for extra curricular activities and other activities. In India mostly focused on theoretical way of learning. It follows the traditional way of teaching method. India gives more stress on academic on academic performances. India also implemented the distance education since 1985. It helped plenty of students from rural area. They completed their course through distance education. But distance education did not provide any quality education towards students. In my point of view class learning is best for students. Because it makes the students to develop some mutual understanding between their peer group.

            The United States of America comprises of 50 states. There is a huge differences in US educational system while compared to India.  They considered extra curricular activities is very important for students. In the US more stress is given on exploring and understanding new ideas. The US gives more value to practical way of education. The education system in US comprises of different stages they are Elementary school, Middle school, High school and post secondary. Usually US universities offer you the possibility to experiment with different courses in the first two years of education. Through this studies are allowed to study their specifically interested subject. It also encourages the  students to broaden the knowledge of other field.

            In India they give more importance to theoretical way of learning. That is actually unacceptable, because students  should know how to operate things. That is really helpful for their career improvement. The United States of America may not be able to identify the students talents in particular subject. Because each and every students have passion for a particular subject. The students might lose their passion through evaluation. After evaluation they may not score very good marks in their passionate field. This may leads them to study in a different field.   So, this is really a heart breaking moments for students.
